To date, plastic micro waste has been detected in approximately 600 marine species. The pollution doesn’t simply go away: Decomposition takes up to 450 years. And it is ubiquitous: 70% end up on the bottom of the ocean, about 15% of plastics are polluting our beaches, 14% are in the water, and only 1% on the water surface. Microfibers shed from clothing during washing are a significant source of marine debris and need to be stopped.
For this reason STOP! MICRO WASTE initiates new research projects to develop standarised testing methods for synthetic garments, such as the FLQS Fiber Loss Quantification Standard.
